Penny Pilgrimage fund-raising event
Saturday 21st September turned out to be fine day for our penny pilgrimage from Fionnphort to St. Ernan’s Church, Creich – warm and sunny although very blustery. I took up my position halfway along the pathway between Fionnphort and Creich with a collection bucket.
People who were unable to walk on the path route came to the Church for the wonderful afternoon tea of savoury and sweet goodies that had been prepared by Linda Cameron and helped by Christine Campbell. Hot and cold drinks were also very welcome.
Emily Lawson and I counted the proceeds. People had been saving up for weeks, and several brought bags of these coins, which are of very little use for any other purpose, after all. We were grateful to find lots of banknotes and gold and silver coins in the collections too.
The money has not yet been formally counted, but at a rough count, we raised a very pleasing £240 for the St. Ernan’s Church refurbishment fund. Thank you to everyone who supported and donated at this event, very much appreciated.
Look out for our next event! We aim to have one a month always involving FOOD. It is so encouraging for us to have all your support. Please keep it up through the coming winter months.
